The Grownup is based around the main character and in Flynn’s style, it is an unknown female narrator. The main character is struggling to survive and make ends meet, when one rainy morning, Susan Burke walks into where she is reading auras at the Spiritual Palms. Susan explains how something terrible is happening with her house and her son, our main character sells her on making home :psychic” visits to help with the problem. By now we have realized that our main character is quite the con artist. The story soon turns chilling and in Flynn’s style, always includes several twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very last page.

I love Gillian Flynn so I was excited to read this, although it’s a very short story.  I would have given this book 4 stars except the ending wasn’t the best. I feel that in a short story like this one, you kind of need to end the book. However, if you have read any of her other books, especially “Gone Girl”, it ends in sort of the same manner. Where the last sentence is almost a question. I like a good solid ending or I feel like there is no closure. However, like all her books, I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
