The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanene
Published January 9th, 2018 by St. Martin’s Press
Genres Thriller, Suspense
A novel of suspense that explores the complexities of marriage and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.
When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
As the synopsis says, I suggest going into this book assuming nothing. Although the synopsis is fairly vague, you pretty quickly get an idea about what this book is about. Or what you think it is about. This book is hard to review because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. It is certainly one of my favorite suspense/thriller books that I have read this year.
The book is divided into three parts, the first part bis narrated by Nellie and Vanessa and alternates between the two. I thought I knew exactly what was going on and then I started part two and you have one of those moments in a book where you are so shocked by the twist that you say, “What?!” And then re-read the last few sentences to make sure you read it correctly. The ending of this book also gives you another twist that I certainly did not see coming. One of the plot aspects I sort of figured out half way through the book, but all the others I did not see coming. The authors did a fantastic job with this book and it is definitely one I found myself thinking about and wanting to get back to reading.
I don’t want to say too much, as I don’t want to give anything away. Part of the reason this book is great, it because you don’t really get a synopsis going into it, except you know it is in the thriller/suspense genre. Although most readers will spend the entire time trying to figure things out and I also believe most won’t, I certainly didn’t. Like I said earlier, this is definitely one of my favorite suspense books I have read this year and will recommend to all my thriller loving book friends. The authors did an excellent job with this book and I can’t wait to read more from them in the future.
Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, for sending me an ARC of this book
