So I think this is the first non-bookish blog post that I have posted on this blog. For those who don’t know me from other social media, like Instagram, Hi I’m Shannon! My husband and I live in a small city in Michigan in the United States.
We adopted a dog this weekend, his name is Reggie and he is a Boston Terrier/French Bulldog mix, who actually belonged to my sister and her family. We have been babysitting him for years and have always loved the little guy. He helps us both a lot with our anxiety and just makes everyone around him smile. He’s super goofy and just has the most loving personality. So we were babysitting him this weekend and he started having some problems and after talking with my sister, we took him the emergency animal hospital on Saturday night. I worked in the veterinary field for a long time and I though he just was having some sort of issue with some of his glands on his back end. Turns out he had a perineal hernia and his intestines were protruding through it. I immediately started crying when the vet gave us this diagnosis because I know my sister and brother-in-law weren’t going to want to do the surgery. Not that they don’t love him, but they have 3 children and are very busy. My sister confirmed this with me the next day, that they weren’t willing to do surgery and so my husband and I adopted him.
The emergency animal hospital sent us home with antibiotics and paint medication, along with some further instructions. I spent Monday morning on the phone with every veterinary office in town, but it isn’t a very common surgery and has to be done by a board certified surgeon. We are lucky enough to have one in town who does the surgery. The emergency animal hospital gave us an initial quote of $2,500, but after they did x-rays and the surgeon examined him, we found out the cost would be between $4,500-$6,000. The surgery is fairly complicated, requires 4 different incisions, will take over 3 hours and he will have a 2-3 week recovery. Again I started crying because that is way over our budget, but we just can not fathom the idea of putting him down. He is only 5 and otherwise in great help. He seriously has helped us with our anxiety and the last few days I woke up laughing as he hopped around our bed with his new stuffed banana.
I know to some people animals are just animals. We’ve been babysitting him since he was little and he already felt like part of our family. After having him here for a week, I can’t imagine him not being here, he is just a sweet and amazing dog. I know there are so many worthy causes, animals and people who need help, so I appreciate you reading this blog post. If you can help in any way, whether it is to share his Go Fund Me link on any of your social media sites or donate whatever you can, even if it’s only $10, we would be forever grateful to you. Reggie will thank you with very silly and cute pictures.
I have had some people say that they don’t like donating through GoFundMe and found rather use Paypal, which is perfectly fine. My Paypal address is email@example.com. I have also listed a fair amount of books for sale on Ebay and will continue to list more over the next few days to try to raise some additional money. You can find the books for sale on Ebay here.
Thank you for reading this far and thank you in advance for sharing or donating, Reggie also says thank you ahead of time! The link to the GoFundMe page is at the top of this blog post.
